Vivir con un perro si eres alérgico / Living with a dog if you are allergic

Ya os hablé hace un tiempo de Lenny y de su historia de alergias. Aunque lo pasamos mal en su momento, ya está muy bien y es un perrito feliz y contento al que hay que controlar lo que come.

Some time ago I told you about Lenny and his allergies. Altough we had a bad time then, he is now very well and is a happy dog who we should control what he eats.

Hoy os quería hablar qué pasa en caso contrario. Si es el dueño el que tiene alergia a los perros.

Bueno, pues para empezar me gustaría decir que por mucho que diga la gente, el tener alergia a los perros (o los gatos, que valen los mismos consejos) no te impide tenerlos. Os voy a dar una serie de consejos para poder tenerlos y funcionan estupendamente, comprobado: mi marido tiene alergia a los perros y se encuentra estupendamente con Lenny, eso sí, en la época de muda de invierno a verano hay que tener más cuidado.

Today I would love to talk about what happens in case the owner is allergic to dogs. Firstly, I wopuld like to say that, unlike what people says, you don’t need to get rid of your dog (or cat, because the same advice apply to them) because you are allergic. I would give you a series of advice to have them and they do work. I have experience because my husband is allergic to dogs and he is find having Lenny around; but there are times of the year in which you have to be extra carefull.

1. Cepillar al perro dos veces a la semana (sobre todo si es de pelo largo, obviamente) intentando llegar a los pelos de la capa inferior que son los que más vuelan. Esto es sobre todo muy importante en la época en la que pierden la capita de pelo de invierno para pasar al verano porque aceleramos el proceso y además evitamos que ellos tengan problemas. Importante que la persona alérgica no ande cerca.

1. Brushing his hair twice per week (above all, if he has long hair) trying to reach the bottom layer of hairs which are the ones flying more. It is especially important in the time of the year in which they lose the winter hair for the summer because we speed up the process and we also avoid them having problems. it is important that the allergic person is not around.

2. Tratamiento para el perro. En el mercado existen productos para minimizar las alergias que producen los animales. Yo solo conozco Vetriderm (no, no me pagan, algún día...) pero puede que haya más. Preguntad al veterinario. La aplicación es una vez a la semana, después del cepillado, con un trapito humedecido en el producto (funciona mejor cuando el pelo se queda húmedo como si le hubieran chupado o algo así; es decir, qué no se quede seco pero que no haya que escurrirlo). En época de muda veraniega os digo por experiencia que hay que echarlo dos veces por semana. Estos productos no le hacen nada al perro, sólo eliminan las células muertas de la piel y restos de orina o saliva que pudieran tener, y que es lo que realmente da alergia, no el pelo.

2. Treat the dog. In the market there are products to minimize the allergies caused by animals. I only know Vetriderm (no, they don’t pay; maybe some day...) but ther might be more; ask your vet. It is applied once a week, after brushing their hair, with a cloth damped in the product (it works better if the hair ends moist, not too dry, nor wet). In the summer change of hair I recomend you to do it twice a week. those prodcts do not harm the animal, they just eliminate dead cells and urine or saliva rests, which is what causes allergies, not hair.

3. Evitar lavarlos a menudo. Nosotros, a no ser que se reboce en mierda (sí, lo ha hecho) solamente lo bañamos una o dos veces al año. Si lo bañáis más es malo tanto para ellos; porque pierden su capa natural de grasa y la tienen que volver a crear, además les deja el pelo más grasiento y con más apariencia de sucio, y huelen peor (así que mejor un buen cepillado cuando le notéis un poco guarrillo, ya veréis el cambio); como para vosotros porque al hacer el proceso de crear la grasita libera muchas células muertas y produce más alergia.

3. Avoid bathing them too often. We, unless he gets covered in shit (yes, he has done it), only bath him once or twice per year. If you bath them more it is bad both for them; because they lose their natural grase layer and they have to create it again, that process leaves their hair greasy and looking dirty and makes them stink more (so when you see thay they start looking dirty, give them a good hair brush, you will see the change); and for you, because as they create the grease, they release more dead cells and produce more allergy.

4. Limpiar la casa a menudo. Esta es la peor parte y la que peor llevo porque con la cantidad de pelo que suelta Lenny no doy a basto. Pasar aspiradora tanto por el suelo como por donde suelan estar (incluida su camita) y el polvo, ya que, entre otras cosas, está compuesto de las células muertas de la piel, tanto las vuestras como las suyas. También si lo soléis llevar en el coche sería conveniente aspirarlo de vez en cuando, o al menos pasarle un cepillito de esos que se llevan los pelos.

4. Cleaning the house often. That is the worst part for me because Lenny’s hairs are everywhere, it does not matter how much I clean. It is important to vacuum clean the floor and everywhere they use to stay (including their bed) and dusting the furniture because dust is made up, among other things, by dead skin cells, both ours and theirs. You can also vacuum clean the car if you use to carry them or, at least, swept it with those rolls that trap hairs.

5. En momentos puntuales, como la dichosa muda veraniega, es muy probable que tengáis que tomaros un antihistamínico durante unos días. Actualmente están muy conseguidos y con todos los pasos anteriores serán solo unos días, así que creo que es un mal menor.

5. At some given moments, like the damned summer shedding, it is very likely that you have to take antihistamine foir a few days. Nowadays they are quite harmless and with the rest of the previous steps it would be just for a few days, so I think it is not that bad.

Y nada más. Disfrutad mucho de vuestras mascotas y dadles cariño que se lo merecen (¡y vosotros!).

And that’s all. Enjoy your pets a lot and give them love, they deserve it (and you!).

Opinión libro: La Historia Interminable /Book Review: The Neverending Story

Hoy inauguramos una nueva sección en el blog con opiniones sobre libros. Para el primer post me apetecía hacerlo sobre mi libro favorito (así que ya os podéis imaginar que no va a ser una opinión mala, jejeje).

Today we inaugurate a new section on the blog with book reviews. For the first post I wanted to review my favourite book (yeah, you can easily guess that it is not going to be a bad review).

Lo primero que me gustaría decir a aquellos que se han visto la película pero no han leído el libro es que la película solo cuenta la mitad de la historia.

First thing I would love to say to those of you who have only watched the film and not read the book is that you are missing half the story, literally.

La Historia Interminable (cuyo título original es Die unendliche Geschichte) de Michael Ende se publicó en 1979. Es una historia de fantasía pero en la que se reflejan cosas de la vida diaria y en la que incluso se hacen referencias al lector, que se siente muy identificado con el  protagonista porque además está sosteniendo el mismo y exacto libro que él, así que ¿quién sabe si lo que le pasa a él nos puede pasar a nosotros?

The Neverending Story (whose original title is Die unendliche Geschichte) by Michael Ende was published in 1979. It is a fantasy story but that reflects daily life things, in which there are even references to the reader, who identifies with the main character because they are also holding the exact same book, so, who knows if what happens to him could also happen to us?

Bastián Baltasar Bux es un niño solitario que acaba de perder a su madre y que es acosado por sus compañeros de clase, por lo que busca consuelo en los libros (salvo por lo de la madre, cuenta mi historia, así que desde ese momento me tenía ganada). Un día encuentra uno llamado La Historia Interminable y comienza a leerlo en el desván de su colegio. Desde ese momento se suceden las cosas que le ocurren a Bastián y las cosas que ocurren en el libro (cada parte aparece escrita en un color diferente), lo curioso es que en la copia de Bastián ocurre lo mismo y aparece lo que él va diciendo en otro color; lo cual hace al lector imaginativo (cualquiera que lo esté leyendo) esperar que de un momento a otro el libro comience a reflejar lo que nosotros estamos pensando o haciendo. (Ya adelanto que eso no ocurre. Así que es la mayor crítica que le puedo hacer al libro, jejeje)

Bastian Balthazar Bux is a lonely kid who has just lost his mother and that is bullied by his classmates, so he looks for comfort in books (except for the mother part, it tells my story, so I was won from the very begining). A given day, he finds one called The Neverending Story and starts reading it at his school’s attic. From that moment mix the things that happen to Bastian with the things that happen in the book (each part is written in a different colour), the curious thing is that Bastian’s copy does the same and shows what he is saying or doing in another color; what makes the imaginative reader (anyone reading it) wait for the book to start reflecting what we are thinking or doing. (I can already tell you that it does not happen at any point, so it must be my worst critic to the book, hahaha).

Lo otro que cuenta el libro es la carrera por salvar Fantasía en la que se elige a un héroe, Atreyu (un niño valiente y decidido; el contrapunto de Bastián y quien él toma como modelo). Este héroe vivirá una serie de aventuras para intentar salvar a la Emperatriz Infantil, de cuya vida depende la supervivencia de Fantasía. Aquí cada vez es más difusa la diferencia entre realidad y ficción, ya que Atreyu llega a pedir la ayuda de Bastián a través de las páginas del libro. Ahí es cuando Bastián es transportado a Fantasía a través del libro y, mediante su imaginación y el poder del amuleto, el Auryn, que le entrega la Emperatriz Infantil, reconstruye Fantasía.

The other thing the book tells is the race to savethe land of Fantastica for which they chose a hero, Atreyu (a brave and decisive kid; Bastian’s opposite and who he takes as his model). This hero will live a series of adventures in order to try to save the Childlike Empress, whose life is deeply connected to Fantastica. At that point the difference between fiction and reality (Bastian’s reality, at least) is each time more confused, because Atreyu even asks for Bastian’s help through the pages of the book. Then, Bastian is taken to Fantastica through the book and, with his imagination and the power of the amulet, Auryn, that the Childlike Empress gives him, he rebuilds Fantastica.

Quizá puede parecer que he contado mucho, pero realmente no he contado nada. La parte de la reconstrucción de Fantasía es la que no cuenta la película y a mi gusto es la más importante porque vemos el cambio que se va produciendo en Bastián. Cómo recupera su confianza y cómo a través del proceso catártico de crear algo así, él consigue reponerse de sus circunstancias personales.

It might seem that I have told a lot, but I haven’t. The part in which he rebuilds Fantastica is the one that does not appear in the film and, in my opinion, it is the most important because we see Bastian’s evolution. How he regains his confidence and how through the catartic process of creating something like that, he manages to overcome his personal circumstances.

Por supuesto es un libro que recomiendo muchísimo, tanto para adultos como para niños. Sobre todo si os identificáis en algo con el protagonista. Es un libro muy emotivo pero también está lleno de aventuras y fantasía. Cada lectura aporta diferentes perspectivas, sobre todo si se va leyendo en diferentes periodos de nuestras vidas; pero no conozco a nadie al que le deje indiferente.

Of course I recommend this book a lot, both for grown-ups and for kids. Especially if you identify with the main character at some point. it is a very moving book but it is also filled with adventuses and fantasy. Each reading gives new perspectives, above all if you read it at different points of yopur life; but I don’t known anyone who has remained indifferent.

P.D. La película no me disgusta, como película de aventuras está muy bien; incluso tiene momentos muy emotivos y muy buenos (refleja muy bien la primera parte del libro), pero claro, le falta la mitad. Eso, sí, lo que más me gusta es el dragón de la suerte: Fújur. De hecho Lenny estuvo a puntito de llamarse así, jejeje, es que se parecen. ¿Qué os parece?

P.S. I do like the film, it is a good adventure film; it even has very moving moments (it reflects very well the first part of the book), but it is only half. What I like most of it is the luckdragon: Falkor (It is Fújur in Spanish, Fuchur in German) was about to be named like that. They look so similar! What do you think?

Hoy os traigo un post especial. Este finde se casa mi amiga Ana. Ella se había maquillado muy pocas veces, de hecho no tenía ningún producto, y me pidió ayuda tanto para ver qué compraba como para ver cómo aplicarlo. Ahora el paso a paso: / Now the step-by-step tutorial:

1. Aplicar la BB por todo el rostro (y el cuello). Si se tiene la piel grasa (o, en mi caso, la BB es demasiado grasa) o nos gusta un acabado más mate podemos aplicar luego los polvos translucidos para fijarla bien. Si tenemos ojeras marcadas, ahora es el momento de aplicar el corrector como si fuese un triángulo bajo los ojos y volvemos a aplicar polvos translucidos.

1. Apply BB Cream in the face (and neck). I we have oily skin (or, in my case, the BB is quite oily) or we like a more matt finish, we can apply translucid powder to fix it well. if we have rings under the eyes, now it is the time to apply the concealer as a triangle below the eyes and set again with translucid powder.

2. Vamos a los ojos. Aplicamos la sombra más clarita (yo he usado el rosa de la paleta de Benefit para imitarlo) por todo el párpado móvil, justo debajo de la ceja y en el lacrimal.

2. Let’s move to the eyes. We apply the brightest eyeshadow (I have used the pink of the Benefit palette to imitate it) all across the eyelid, right below the eyebrows and on the inner corner of the eye.

3. Ponemos la sombra intermedia (en mi caso he mezclado las dos más claras de la paleta de Boots) en el párpado móvil. Tanto este paso como el anterior lo aplicamos con la brocha de ojos más grandecita.

3. We put the intermediate eyeshadow (in my case I have mixed the brightest two of the Boots palette) on the eyelid. Both this step and the previous one is made with the bigger eye brush.

4. Ahora lo más complicado. Con la sombra más oscura (yo he mezclado la más oscura de la paleta de Boots con el colorete) y el pincel de ojos más fino marcamos la línea dónde se pliega el ojo, desde el extremo exterior hasta algo más de la mitad de esa línea. Una vez marcado (que se note, no os preocupéis que eso ahora lo arreglamos), mojamos ligeramente el pincel grande en el color intermedio y en el oscuro y lo pasamos repetidamente por esa línea que hemos hecho hasta que la línea se haya difuminado. Se debe notar pero no como si hubiésemos usado un boli.

4. Now we go to the most complicated part. With the daarkest eyeshadow (I have mixed the darkest of the Boots palette with the blush) and the small eye brush we mark the crease of the eyw from the outter corner to a bit more than the middle on that crease. Once it is marked (it does not matter if at this stage it is quite obvious, we'll fix it in a moment), we slightly dip the bigger eye brush into the intermediate and dark colours and we repeatedly go through the line we have already made until it has difuminated. It should be noted but not as if we had used a sharpie.

5. Una vez hecho, admiramos nuestra obra y nos felicitamos por ella mientras aplicamos la máscara de pestañas. Haciendo zig-zag de abajo a arriba en las pestañas superiores; y en las inferiores a toquecitos (solo interesa dar color).

5. Once we had done this, we step back and admire our art as we congratulate ourselves for it while we apply the mascara. Making zigzag movements on the upper lashes and just touching the lower ones (we only want to get colour below).

6. El colorete lo aplicamos siguiendo el pómulo hacia la sien. (Si tenemos en mente alguna imagen del maquillaje de los 80 esa es la zona exacta pero si marcar tanto, claro, jejeje)

6. Then we apply the blush following our cheekbone towards the temples (If we have in mind some image of the 1980s make-up that’s exactly the place but without marking it so much, of course).

7. Justo encima del colorete, siguiendo el hueso del pómulo en la misma dirección aplicaremos nuestra sombra clarita y lo difuminamos bien (con el dedo incluso, no hay problema).

7. Right above the blush, following the cheekbone in the same direction, we will apply our light eyeshadow and difuminate it quite well (even with the finger, there is no problem here).

8. Si hemos elegido un color de labios mate (como es mi caso, aunque no el de Ana por eso no se la he recomendado) aplicamos una base hidratante. Recomiendo muchísimo esta de Mac. Delineamos los labios con el perfilador (yo no lo he hecho porque no tenía de ese color, tendré que arreglarlo) y rellenamos los labios con el mismo perfilador. A continuación aplicamos el pintalabios (Yo lo he aplicado con pincel porque el tipo de aplicador que incluye el pintalabios líquido no me gusta demasiado).

8. If we have choosen a matt lip colour (as it is my case, altough it is not Ana’s so I have not recommended it to her), we will apply a moisturizing lip base. I quite recommend this one from Mac. We draw the lip line with a lip pencil (I haven’t done it because I did not have that colour –I should fix it soon–) and then fill the lips with it. After that we will apply the lipstick. i have applied it with a brush because I don’t like the kind of wand included on the liquid lipsticks).

9. Opcional: Yo a Ana no le he recomendado eyeliner porque nunca lo ha usado y me parecía muy atrevido empezar el día de la boda de una a probar. Así que le recomendé usar el tono oscuro de sombra de ojos con la brocha biselada a modo de raya discreta. Ella lo ha probado y dice que le parece poco, que probará con un lápiz negro, así que suerte. Yo me he puesto eyeliner (muy discreto para lo que soy yo) en un ojo sí -el derecho según se mira- y en uno no para que veáis la diferencia.

9. Optional: I haven’t recommended Ana to use a liquid eyeliner because she had never used it and I thought it was too bold to try it on your wedding day, don’t you think? So I adviced her to use the darkest eyeshadow with angle brush in order to do a more discreet eyeliner. She has tried it and says it looks too soft so she is going to try it with a black kohl pencil, so I wish her luck. I have applied the a quite discreet, for me, eyeliner only on one eye (the right one as you look) for you to see the difference.

Hoy os quería hablar del proyecto de Trnd España del que he formado parte el último mes. Se trata de un proyecto en colaboración con Freixenet para promocionar el lanzamiento de Mia, su nuevo vino espumoso.

Today I want to talk about the project of Trnd España of which I’ve been part for the past month. it is a project done in collaboration with Freixenet to promote the launch of Mia, its new sparkling wine.

Os explico un poco el tipo de vino que es y luego os daré mi opinión totalmente sincera. Mia es un vino espumoso afrutado diseñado por la enóloga Gloria Collell, quién ha convertido a la ciudad de Barcelona en su musa para elaborar este vino. Según la nota de prensa, es producto de un año de investigación y recopilación de opiniones de creadores de vinos de todo el mundo, unidos al enfoque femenino de su creadora.

I will explain you what kind of wine it is and then I will give you my most sincere opinion. Mia is a fruity sparkling wine designed by the enologist Gloria Collell, who has turned the city of Barcelona in its muse to do this wine.  According to the press release, it is a product that has taken one year of investigation and compilation oif opinions from wine-makers across the world, together with the feminine touch of its creator.

Viene en dos formatos:

-          Fruity and Sweet. Elaborado con uva 100% moscatel de la costa mediterránea española. Es fresco y ligero, de color amarillento, y combina bien con frutos secos, queso y postres.

-          Delicate and Sweet. También elaborado con moscatel de la costa mediterránea española pero con un toque de tempranillo. Es delicado y equilibrado, de color rosado, y marida con salmón, marisco, queso azul y comida asiática.

In Spain, it comes in two formats (I’ve seen that there are more worldwide):

-          Fruity and Sweet. Done with 100% Moscato grapes from the Spanish Mediterranean coast. It is fresh and light, yellowish, and combines well with nuts, cheese and desserts.

-          Delicate and Sweet. Also done with Moscato grapes from the Spanish coast but with a little touch of Tempranillo. it is delicate and balance, with a rosé colour, and can be served with seafood, blue cheese and Asian food.

Y ahora que os he explicado un poco el concepto os doy mi opinión. Se resume en: no está mal. Yo al principio era un poco escéptica porque los anteriores que había probado de este estilo, que parece que está muy de moda, no me habían gustado nada, me parecían muy, muy dulces; tanto que sólo me sabían “dulce” (puede que mi cabeza haya exagerado un poco, jejej), pero estos no están mal en el sentido de que tienen un cierto gusto a vino, que en el fondo es lo que uno espera en un vino, ¿no? Y en verano fresquitos se beben de maravilla, sobre todo acompañando pescado.

Now that I have explained the concept, let me give my opinion. It can be summarised in: not bad. At first I was skeptical because the previous wines of this kind, which seems to be in fashion around here, I’ve tried were awful, they seemed to be very, very sweet; so much that they only tasted “sweet” to me (my mind may have exaggerated a little bit), but these are not bad in the sense that they still taste like wine, which is what one expects when drinking win, right? And, having them very cold in summer is great, above all combined with fish.

He de decir que yo los he probado tres veces en eventos familiares (aunque solo tengo documentación fotográfica de dos –¡esta cabeza mía! –). La primera vez probé los dos con un lomo de cerdo relleno de piña y bacón y pegaban menos. Pero la segunda y la tercera vez los probé con mejillones al vapor y sardinitas a la plancha y mejoran mucho con pescado y, en contra de lo que especifican los maridajes que recomienda Freixenet, yo elegí Fruity and Sweet (el blanco) con el pescado las dos veces porque es menos dulce y ya veis que los vinos dulces y yo no somos buenos amigos (aunque el oporto y otros del estilo, con un regusto a pasas, me encantan con el postre).

I must say that I have tried them three times at family events (altough there are only pictures of two –shame on my poor memory! –). The first time I tried both with a pork loin stuffed with pineapple and bacon and they did not fit quite right. But the second and third time I tried them with steamed mussels and grilled sardines, respectively, and they felt much better and, against what is adviced by Freixenet, I paired Fruity and Sweet (the white one) with fish both times because it is less sweet and you have already seen what I think about sweet wines (altough I love porto wine and other of the same kind, with a raisin touch, with my dessert).

En resumen: no están mal para el veranito fresquitos, aunque creo que sigo prefiriendo mi verdejo del alma. Eso sí, para subir el glamour de cualquier evento o aperitivo son perfectos y hasta pueden convertirse en un buen regalo.

All in all: they are not bad cold in the summer, altough I think I’ll stick to my beloved Verdejo. But truth must be said, they are perfect to glamour-up every event or aperitivo and they can even become a great gift.

¿Qué tal va el verano? Yo sin vacaciones aún. Hoy me gustaría hablaros de lo que supone vivir con un perro alérgico a multitud de alimentos y los cuidados a seguir.

How is your summer going? I still do not have holidays. Today I would love to tell you what does it mean to live with a dog that is allergic to much food and the cares he needs.

Primero os pongo en antecedentes. Adoptamos a Lenny en julio de 2013 y tenía entre 7 y 9 meses (en estas cosas es complicado saberlo), ya vimos que estaba bastante delgadito pero con la vida que había tenido y que no sabíamos muy bien de qué era cruce (seguimos sin saberlo, aunque parece que algo de Golden hay) no nos preocupamos. Al principio engordó un kilo o dos, pero a los seis meses lo había vuelto a perder. Lo que pasó entonces es que empezó a rascarse como si no hubiese un mañana y le salieron muchas erupciones por la zona de la tripita. Inmediatamente lo llevamos al veterinario (la ventajas de tener una suegra veterinaria especialista en piel es que estas cosas se identifican muy prontito, jeje) y le hicieron unas pruebas de alergia. Salió que tenía alergia a muchiiiiiisimas cosas que llevan los piensos (incluidos los buenos, que era de los que comía él).

First of all, I would love to tell you how everything started. We adopted Lenny in July 2013 when he was between 7 and 9 months old (it is complicated to know in adoptions), we saw he was very thin but with the life he has had and the fact that we did not know of which breeds he is mixed (we still do not know, altough it seems that there is something of Golden), we did not worry. In the beginning he gained one or two kilos, but after six months he lost them. Then he started scratching himself really hard because of the many outbreaks he had in his tummy. We took him immediately to the veterianarian (the perks of having a veterinarian mother-in-law specialised in the skin is that these things can be diagnosed very soon) and he underwent some allergy tests. It ended up being that he was allergic to plenty of food included in every dog feed (including the good ones, which he ate).

 

Lenny era alérgico al maíz, al trigo, a la soja, a los guisantes e incluso ¡al arroz! En ese momento teníamos que buscarle un pienso sin nada de esas cosas (es complicado pero afortunadamente cada vez hay más variedad) para que la alergia no fuese a más y tratar los sarpullidos que ya tenía y evitar que se rascase (y curar las heridas que ya se había hecho).

Lenny is allergic to corn, wheat, soy, peas and even, rice! In that moment we had to look for some feed with none of these things (it is complicated but luckily there is a wider variety nowadays) in order to not make it worse and treat the outbreaks he already had and stop him from scratching (and cure the wounds he has already made himself with the scratching).

 

Para que no se rascase le pusimos una camiseta del revés (sacando el rabito por el cuello, las patas traseras por las mangas y haciendo un agujero para las patas delanteras y con una cuerda con una tanca alrededor de la cinturilla de la camiseta), un apaño muy artesanal pero efectivo hasta que el “angelito” se las apañó para rascarse igualmente y le pusimos unas botitas en las patas traseras (ambas cosas solo para estar en casa) y así aunque se rascara no se clavaba las uñas. Para que mejorase la piel le tocaron baños semanales con un champú especial para pieles atópicas (luego fuimos reduciendo los baños a cada quince días y luego cada mes y ahora ya no hacen falta pero sigo usando ese champú si alguna vez se reboza en algo y toca baño) y unos complementos alimenticios de omega 3 y ácidos grasos que le encantaban y opinaba que eran premios.

In order to avoid him from scratching we made him a dress with a backwards T-shirt (pulling the tail through the head openning and the hindlimbs through the sleeves and making a hole for the forelimbs with a rope around the waist of the T-shirt adjusted through a fastener), a pretty artesanal invention but effective until the “little angel” found out how to scratch anyways and we made him wear some boots on the hindlimbs (both things were only for staying at home) so he could scratch without hurting himself. In order to improve his skin, we bathed him weekly with a special shampoo for atopic skins (then we reduced the baths to every two weeks, then monthly and  now he does not need them anymore but I keep using the shampoo if he ever needs a bath) and some food complements with omega 3 and fat acids that he loved and thought of as treats.

Para mantenerle sanote es complicado porque hay que estar muy pendientes de que no coma nada del suelo (sobre todo pan) cuando sale, que no se nos caiga nada en casa y que si se cae recogerlo inmediatamente porque claro, él no sabe que le sienta mal. Además hay que ir pendiente de que nadie le de premios de otros perros por la calle porque todos los premios que he encontrado en el mercado tienen alguna de esas cosas y entonces esas personas te miran mal porque no se lo acaban de creer. Además en nuestro caso tenemos que andar con cuidado con otro tipo de “manjares” que pueda encontrar por ahí porque la alergia le ha pasado factura al estómago y ahora el pobre se pone malito con nada.

Keeping him healthy is complicated because with need to be careful for him not to eat anything from the floor (above all bread) when he is out; not to through anything to the floor at home and if we accidentaly do pick it fast because he does not know it does not suit him well. We also have to take care of no other dog-owner gives him treats in the park because every treat I have seen have some of these things and, then, those people give us a bad look because they do not believe us. Also, in our case, we have to take care of other kinds of “delicatessen” he might find because his allergy has taken his toll and now he gets sick quite easily.
